Don’t you just miss that old sweet-spicy-meaty spaghetti goodness?

The sprouting of fastfoods in the Philippines, offering their own version of Spaghetti in red sauce, as well as the influx of the more high-end Italian Pasta Restaurants like Italianni’s, Fazoli’s and A.Venetto, has made me go into a pasta adventure over the past few years. My love affair with pasta had me pick my favorites sauces: the Alfredo, Carbonara and Pesto.  Wherever I go, I always pick one of those three sauces from the menu.

There are times however, when I just miss that good old-birthday party meaty sweet and spicy cheesy spaghetti that mom makes when I celebrate my birthday as a kid. It has this real meaty goodness of traditional filipino spaghetti. Today was one of those days when I wanted to make something in the kitchen and I just went for it – I decided to cook mom’s spaghetti recipe!

For dinner - that good ol' rich meaty cheesy spaghetti goodness...yummy weekend treat

By the time Hunee and I got home from Paranaque, I went to get some ingredients from Shopwise (it’s a stone’s throw away from where I live…). Luckily, they had fresh ground sirloin beef available, otherwise, I would have had trouble cooking the sauce if it was just the ordinary fatty ground beef. Hunee doesn’t like the beef though, coz it has some small pieces of bone that you get to munch on when you eat (If anybody knows how to debone ground sirloin beef, leave me a message! I could surely use that tip!)

Anyway, so I went off on my cooking adventure, prepared all the ingredients and boiled water for my pasta. While cooking my pasta and sauteeing the meat…guess what happened! I ran out of gas!!! Sigh, the things that could happen to you in the middle of preparing a late night dinner – it’s times like these that make me wish I had an extra gas tank in the kitchen….Anyhow, I called up the shellane delivery service and I was lucky to be their last customer for the day! Yahooo…I patiently waited for the guy to arrive and hook up my new gas tank…and voila! 30 minutes thereafter, I was done cooking and we were happily eating the yummmyyy meaty semi-sweet and spicy filipino style spaghetti… I still can’t perfect that taste in mom’s recipe though, but here it is anyway.

Bacolod Chicken Inasal, anyone?

I have always been a fan of the Bacolod Chicken Inasal eversince I first had a taste of the real thing, flown all the way from Bacolod. Yuuummm!!! Whoever made the recipe of Bacolod Chicken Inasal popular must be filthy rich by now, had he patented his culinary masterpiece… hehe! :-)

After searching long and hard for the real Bacolod Inasal Chicken goodness in Manila, we finally found the best place that offer the closest match to the real thing. The place is called Bacolod Chicken Inasal Express.

The place offers al fresco dining in a corner lot in Savana Market along Pablo Ocampo Ext. fronting Shopwise Pasong Tamo. I live just around this area so pretty much, I am a frequent patron. In most days when I am tired of cooking and washing the dishes, I would just get to-go pecho and a garlic rice. However, this is also a good place to dine in, in the company of friends, when you’re in for a quick lunch or dinner and don’t have the luxury of time to wait in line in your favorite fastfoods.

Here’s how I rate my overall dining experience:

  • TASTE – Best Bacolod Chicken Inasal in Manila!
  • PRESENTATION - Not your yellow chicken in a stick but good enough!
  • SERVICE - Quick and very polite servers
  • CLEANLINESS - Good enough, your food is served on a banana leaf so you know it’s disposable.
  • PRICE – A pecho and a cup of rice costs Php90.00

My apologies for posting no pics on this blog… I know food blogs come alive with the photos but since my camera is broken and we still haven’t bought our 350D, I really don’t have much choice. When I do get my camera, I will try to update my posts with photos.
